Speak and Speak Re-Visited by ShadowWario
Back in December we showcased a new kind of poop which helped bridge the gap between strictly narrative based poops and those that go off in strange directions. TheBigL1’s Speak & Spell Legends became a significant precursor to the Flash Poop sub-genre but as hardcore collage based poopers continue the campaign of vitriolic intimidation against all aspects of Flash Poop, ShadowWario revists the classic video with a renewed sense of disdain.
“Speak and Spell Legends” made by TheBigL1. Is possibly the more overrated than What is Spaghetti; everyone, including the admin plus members of the forum seem love it, and yet it sucks far more than What is Spaghetti ever could.
Really, there’s only one sentence that I could type about this poop and be finished—nay, a paragraph describing the sentence. That sentence is, “It’s not even a poop; it’s a redub/poop hybrid.” 50% of the video is the king talking with “The speech-synthesis voice from Gauntlet 1 and 2.”
In the original article, the first statement is, “Many have tried it but none have achieved it - a Youtube Poop that uses CD-i cutscenes in a sincere way that neither sacrifices collage in favour of humour nor that uses CD-i to refer to poop culture and/or it’s status as being a symptom of AIDS.” I didn’t understand this statement when I read it (after watching the video, of course), and I still don’t understand it. How is this poop considered CD-i? Isn’t CD-i poops supposed to be almost all the way CD-i? This poop features some CD-i, but most of it is King Harkinian dubbed by the Gauntlet voice.
Speaking on the subject of the redub, my opinion of all CD-i poops use one of the following three methods to be funny:
- Sentence Mixing (I’m going to toast spaghetti for dinner!)
- Imporing another source, usually by redubbing (The Gauntlet voice here, “What is Love?” in the poop “What is Spaghetti?”
- AIDSless AIDS (Using effects of Vegas, WMM, etc. to make it where the video and audio is unrecognizable)
At least one is always used in every CD-i poop on Youtube (If there is one not featuring one of the above, it’s probably the only one.) and methods 1 and 2 always fail, and 3, when done right, results in win. However, Speak and Spell Legends uses 2 as it’s crutch, and falls down to the ground every step of the movie.
Another bad mistake is the use of an introduction. The first time I watched it, I turned it off in the middle of the intro, as I saw it was getting nowhere fast. Truthfully, what I like about it is that it warns you ahead of time of the video. I can almost here the words “HEY, DUDE! THIS VIDEO’S CRAP! PRESS PAUSE! PRESS PAUSE! GO WATCH WHAT IS SPAGHETTI OR SOMETHING!” during the introduction.
It mentions Gwonam the Sage in the introduction, but he never appears!
Likewise Duke Onkled isn’t mentioned, even if you don’t see him until the end. In the middle of the video, there is an epic (and since it’s Youtube Poop terms, it means “good and very short”) fight scene between “Richard Simmons” (the name given to Mario’s Head from Mario Teaches Typing. That is the only funny part of the video.) and King Harkinian, which is more of an epic spelling bee.
In my opinion, it’s a fine line between regular poop and flash poop, because it uses the clips for a purpose greater than to make you look like you’re on acid watching this, but does not decapitate the actual characters from the background like flash poop.
Despite this, if this was longer and a poop by itself I’d think it was awesome.
However, after the fight scene, it switches to method 1 above: sentence mixing. It would have been better off sticking to method 2 at the end rather than switch to a weaker crutch. It just falls on the floor and says “Screw it, I’m crawling” So, no matter what other people say, Speak and Spell Legends is a horrible example of a good CD-i poop.

ShadowWario is right. It’s overrated, and that happens on a lot of featured poops.
Even the original advertisement was overrating this poop and going against flash poops. But I didn’t noticed about the mention of Gwonam
