Software Review: EditStudio 6.0.4
EditStudio 6.0.4 by Mediachance is a simple, yet very limited function video editor. It is a trial, but can be bought for $89.00. Recently, Mediachance bought the Editstudio rights from Puremotion, but Editstudio still kinda has it’s faux-like functions and look. As you may know, Editstudio has/is used by Poopers hsuch as MVJ52197, Combuskenisawesome, zacheatscrackers, and me, Cloggedone for a short time. Downloading was simple, as the file was only 23MB, unlike Adobe Premeire’s huge 2GB file and Sony Vegas’ not-as-big 150mb install.
When I started Editstudio up, it asked me if it wanted to buy or use the trial, which is typical trial behavior. Also, to my surprise, when I attempted to import a video, it didn’t work! I asked MVJ52197 about it, who has used Editstudio until recently, when he switched to Vegas. He said that Editstudio does not support .wmv files, and needs to be a .avi file with mp3 audio. I converted a couple videos, and when I compile a video, it NEVER compiles right! Plus, there’s a watermark, so if you have a distaste for waterwarks, this software is not for you! As it turns out, you have to compile videos as high quality .avi files, which is a no-no for old computers because of their big file size.
I would NOT recommend it unless you’re ready to give up a lot of time and money.

I’ll be sure to stay away from it then.

Actually, (although I’m still using Editstudio 5) Editstudio can import certain .wmv files (things I got from Quebecgamers and Yoshiart work just fine) The main problem seems to be with any .wmv that was converted by Mediaconverter. For these files, it only plays the sound, but as long as you can convert it to an .avi (as a low quality .wmv, it should come out as a small .avi file. I have actually grown used to creating videos using a seperate video and sound file and have not had any kind of trouble in doing things that other people can do with other programs. Editstudio’s .avi export is very large, but if you export it as an MPEG file with the settings set to export to NSTC MPEG-1 or PAL MPEG-1, you’ll have a fair quality video that is also much smaller than a .avi file.
In short, Editstudio really isn’t as bad as this review would make it seem. (Well, again, I have Editstudio 5 instead of 6, so some things may have changed) The watermark doesn’t bother me that much, although I may buy the full version or get something else later down the line. For now, though, I’m fine with EditStudio and as long as you know how to work around and work with Editstudio’s limitations, you should be fine with it too.

Oh, and the trial doesn’t appear to expire (I’ve had it since the beginning of January), it just has the watermark, which is removed once it is bought.
The watermark (as far as I know) is the only difference between the free version and $89 version of Editstudio.
