Grand Theft Poop by Christoph
To gain recognition is the goal that many of us aim for. A majority of us want to be seen and given attention when we create poops. This is why so many poopers crave subscribers, comments, and views. To be noticed can be a great thing, but recently it would appear that the grass, which was once greener on the other side, has bugs and rats and all other kinds of vermin lurking amongst the weeds. Those with popularity have been hit by a wave of poop theft, or as I’d like to call it, Grand Theft Poop.
Poop Stealers are those who simply take a video some someone’s account, put it on their own, and then “lol it up” with their chums. Poop Stealing seems harmless enough, but those who work hard on their poops and their fans seem to dislike this form of appreciation. Stealing such works can effectively steal the spotlight, even if for a few moments, and this seems to absolutely piss off plenty of people.
The thieves of YouTube Poop have been hitting too close to home for many forum members, as it has become an issue which is seen daily. It has come to the point where anyone that opens the forums to see if their topic got any responses will have trouble finding out. Topics of many sorts are being buried under a sea of countless topics and threads that string their way along screen screaming complaints such as “SUPERGOKU69 STOLE MY TRAP!” (And apparently that IS a real account, so have fun with that.) However, there can only be so many times a victimless crime is committed before people start to not care at all.
In a survey I did on the forums, many of the members expressed a lack of care on whether someone steals someone’s poop or even their own poop. There is just a general lack of concern on the issue, as nearly everyone said they would not care. Terrorist, the well known pooper who was featured back in September, expresses similar thoughts, but with a twist: “I barely care if anyone steals from me. If someone stole from me, I’ll actually congratulate him.”
This also raises the issue of those that ‘archive’ the work of others. Pimpsahoy most famously created an account and uploaded a selection of titleinlarge videos, after the video maker was bombarded with hateful comments and threats for making flash poops. Thanks to pimpsahoy those that supported titleinlarge well able to leave him messages. Likewise a few lost gems (more recenty a number of DukeofFortuneMan videos) have turned up thanks to poop fans not motivated by subscriber numbers but historical interest.
So the motivation behind such theft should be also taken into account. Plus of course the availiblry of the original source. The very structure of a poop relies on stealing sources, ignoring copyrights and the personal wishes of those you take from. Now that we are being stolen from ourselves, some of us can’t seem to stand it. Will we ourselves stop stealing. Of course not, as our thievery leads to our art. Besides, the inevitable bitching and moaning will give you back all the attention you initially lost.
One thing is for sure. Now that it has started it isn’t going to stop - how we, as a community
deal with it is the real question. Flaming, public outing, spam attacks other aggressive behaviour maybe the kind of thing other communities depend on to solve problems but is our forum really destined to become flooded by reports of new sightings and moan threads about the matter?

A fine article, Christoph.
I think the biggest problem about this issue is the load of spam that has hit the forum as a consequence of it. I’m tired of seeing a dozen threads about the same damn thing.

What does this video have to do with anything?
