Flash Poop Now a Sub-Genre
Despite being shrouded in controversy this website now recognises Flash poops as being legitimate sub genre of poop and supports those who that work hard to make them.
The move comes after weeks of heated debate in the forum, opponents arguing that that certain videos were so far removed from poop that despite referring to poop that shared none of the hallmarks and were merely poop themed fan animations. Three key elements make a flash poop: cdi cutscense (or other over used AIDS material such as Dr. Rabbit); use of special effects and/or self animated elements reminiscent of flash animation; and a storyline structure or other narrative elements such as central joke.
Flash Poops tend not to use stutter loops or collage technique and like the analogue poopers the makers of these videos tend to be well mannered and respectful to their audiences rather than trying to annoy them - they also tend to have their own brands, logos and idents. However unlike the work of analogue poopers flash poops have been regularly lambasted as heresy and slated as being of little or no creative or aesthetic value.
Back in October 2007 this site decided to exclude cdi based poops from the directory (and by and large from the forum) because of the flood of identical cdi remixes that was spending through poop like a plague. However pockets of resistance were inevitable and from that group this new videos have evolved.
A key player in the genre is link123456, who began pooping during the Boom of poop popularity in early 2007. At the time his Triforce of Faceage series (which he makes using EffectsLab Pro) was a become something of a impressive curiosity. Building his own audience of fans link123456 carried on making videos that (like all good poopers) he personally wanted to make and share. But as his personal fan base grew he was also looked at by some with jealousy and resentment. By October 2007, when this site was trying to save Poop from being overwhelmed by feral children in the pursuit of AIDS related lulz link123456 decided to continue making that he thought his audience had come to expect and enjoy from him.
By in large he also had support from a large amount of people in the forum who recognised that his videos, whilst not being to everyone’s taste were still very much worth watching and indeed subverted media in bizarre new ways that was both comical but also sometimes quite profound. Naturally, derivative works started to appear and link123456 was also able to create his own meme, with the creation of God Luigi.
New poopers were coming along and referring to the God meme in their poops not even knowing that this site was still endeavouring to rid itself of cdi AIDS and would flame those that used it it, ignorance of the law was no excuse. Titleinlarge503 was one of those that made this mistake and was on the receiving end of a barrage of abuse. Nintedobrad too commented
“I’ve been at dismay ever since I found out my videos are disliked by the Youchew community due to special effects and storytelling. An effort to establish YTP sub-genres is just what Youtube Poop needs.”
Momentum built up (and continue to build) in support of videos which are known as Youtube Poop and yet are so far removed from the modern poop that they are barely recognisable as such.
When asked about the consensus view, forum moderator strong>MrDrunkenFox explained.
“A poop is a messed-up collage of clips made into a video and sent to the internet for whatever reason. The messed-up collage, like I’ve said in my interview, is older than World War II. I strongly encourage the use of original material of course, but the definition of the poop does not lie on the source. It lies on the method, amount of editing, and lack of special effects outside the main video editor.”
To Fox, anything that uses effects may be poop in its own way, but nothing outside of a video editor is fair game for poop. This view was supported by Misselaineous10, Deepercutt and Gamecubehero plus a number of other high profile poopers, the latter even vandalising the chewiki to make his point clear.
Video directory curator Conrad Slater who, despite publicly disliking these videos disagreed about the definition claiming it was needlessly restrictive.
“As the Chewiki states, there is no formal definition as to what poop is. There are some really interesting ideas flying in here on any given day. And those ideas can inspire other ideas as much as they can cause arguments. Were everyone to agree what a poop is then there would be nothing left to talk about and the forum would close because no would need to solve the puzzles anymore. And I can’t wait to see what God Chad Walden does when he goes up against God Bono!”
Pimpsahoy in surprise move was quick support Slater demanding that working definition be drafted which accepts those making poops that were made to entertain (rather than annoy). As a supporter of Flash Poops (he organised a small campaign successfully urging titleinlarge to return to poop making) this is a rare moment in which Conrad and Pimpsahoy agreed almost completely and which the end of the debate was not a plea to be allowed back on the forum.
“I think it’s another genre of poop. People who say they are not do not understand what poop is; a mixed up video collage, which is what special effects poops are…mixing up a frame rather then a video. [People who say it isn’t poop] aren’t willing to allow change or allow modifications to what is already known as ‘poop.’” pimpsahoy
Flash Poops will now be included in the youtube poop directory, those flaming their makers will be treated as forum abusers and all pooper are encouraged to show support to the new subgenre by making a poop or two in that style and expanding its limits in the same way as it did with the YTPMV last year.
The debate is not completely settled, but that might be the most interesting part of the argument. Poop has never had anything more than a tenuous definition, and it is no different now. The worst we can do is turn away from the debate and simply resign ourselves to lazy thinking; the best we can do is to continue to have the debate from time to time, come to some interesting conclusions, get some new ideas, read some hilarious comments, and as usual, do our best to take all of this far too seriously.

As an addendum to this article is should be noted that the perfect poop campaign addresses the “What is poop” argument by inviting all participants to create and share their own working definition of Youtube Poop

Great job digging up information and analyzing opinions, Rabbit. I think this debate, as you said, is far from over.

Wait, so these are considered poops, but not ones that edit sound? Who made YOU president of YTP, Conrad?

I don’t get how we can consider flash poops youtube poops. We recognize them because they use Gay Luigi, Link, The King, Dr. Rabbit, Mama Luigi, and all the Youtube Poop meme characters. If it was, say, and old man and a squirrel, we wouldn’t call it flash poop!
