Deepercutt Interview

DeeperCutt is one of the most prolific Poop makers of 2007. With a truly astonishing 2,264 subscribers we ask if Deepercutt feels any kind of pressure to deliver high quality videos, how he became so popular and what kind of negative impact this has had on his creative work - has it all gone to his head?
First, a bit of an introduction: How did you first discover poop? How did you start making poop? What was your first poop, and how does it compare to your more recent work?
When I was younger I never really knew Youtube existed until early 2006 I used to watch nothing but VideoGame trailers and Reviews, Until I found a poop called Yoshi’s Sexual Adventure XXX by Ethan/AntiEthan. I thought it was the funniest thing I ever seen, so I began to look for more, I ran into poopers like SuperYoshi, Retrojape, and many others, Although I didn’t start making poops yet till December 2006. Later on I had a friend named Evan who had a Youtube Channel called Deepercutt, so I asked him if I could upload my poops there (because I was too scared to make an account at the time) which brought the birth of Football is For Egg-heads. I used the very first version of WMM (which is bad because it can’t do anything but repeat) to make this poop, later on it got good comments by a few people which gave me the courage to make more.
With over 2000 subscribers, it is obvious that you are widely popular on Youtube. Yet on the forum, many consider you overrated. I’d like to talk about that disparity. What do you think led to you becoming so successful on Youtube? Do you think the material you use had much to do with it, your pooping style, or something else perhaps?
Well most of fans I had on Youtube were Sonic fans so I tried to be original and do shows like Sonic X, Sonic Underground, etc. which helped me gain some fans, then I tried to do some other shows like SMW, Mortal Kombat, Static Shock, and tons more, which brought more attention to newer viewers. As for my style, every seems to like my slow pace episode-like poops.
Why do you suppose you have so many subscribers, have you ever put “please subscribe” in your videos?
I think it was because I used different material than just CD-I which gained peoples attention; but no, I never used any of that “Please Subscribe” stuff. Although I admit I did do it when I told everyone to bubscribe to my Alternate Account (which doesn’t really count because it was a fad).
Many people on the forum openly disapprove of CDi, often passionately. In spite of that, you still use it in many of you recent work. Many poopers on the forum also assert that you are overrated. How has the forum influenced you creatively, if at all? Has the outlook of others influenced you work? If so, how? If not, why not?
Yes it has actually, people used to say “you’re running out of ideas” or “you’re losing your poop style” which cause me to get rid of some of my famous quote and jokes such as “DINNER” and the Bleep noises, nowadays I try to avoid using “DINNER” and try not to use the bleeps too much. I still like to use CD-I but only as references, I made only one CD-I poop and it wasn’t very good in my opinion so I just stuck with the original material. But I still think its possible to make good poops using CD-I; I don’t mean like Link123456 who seem to think using special effects makes their poops more Random. No, if its used in the right hands like Nickshorts and BigL1 then it can be really great.
I’d like to talk a bit more about the forum. How do you think the Poop Forum has influence the community’s creative direction? Do you think poop has become more original as a consequence of the forum?
Yes, I think the forums made poops more original than they were before, everyone here shows more criticism than the people on Youtube and it made the pooper learn what he should and shouldn’t use.
A Youtube search for “youtube poop” shows results largely of your work, along with some of the work of WalrusGuy and JeffLindblom. What do you think of the issue of Youtube searches for poop and what the average viewer searching for poop is likely to find? Do you think it’s a problem that the average viewer is exposed to so few poopers?
Some people on the forums are mad at me because my poops are on the front page in the “Youtube poop” section, they say I am hogging all the spotlight to the underrated poopers. I only put “Youtube poop” to get more views (annoying fans is what everyone else says) but I don’t really care for my fans because they worship me too much.
Moving to your own poop, when you make a poop, what do you aim to do? Your poops are obviously intended to entertain more than annoy, as you use more comic poopisms, such as sentence edits and redubs, certainly in your earlier work, such as in the various parts of The King’s Coming, as well as in your more recent work, such as The Most Epic Card Game Ever. Is this because you think poop should appeal to audiences greater than just the poop community, or do you merely enjoy comic poops more than annoying ones?
I like to make stories and episodes of small resource clips to make people laugh and be entertained, I’m not good at annoying people so I just want to make people laugh.
What is your general approach to poop? Do you view it as a form of art? Is it just a hobby? Do think that poop should be taken seriously?
Just a hobby for me, I love to make poops for fun.
How you you suppose your videos have changed in the last year? I really enjoy your newer stuff but I find it hard to define how to define at what point it changed.
After I got Adobe Premiere pro 3.0 my style of poop has changed several times, I changed from simple effect (invert, pitchshift, Speedup/Slowdowns) to special effects (red glowing eyes, lasers, change color) but not like the kind Walrusguy or Link123456 use.
I also changed my pace a few times as well like in “Farming is for Egg-Faces” and “Racism in the Mushroom Kindom” although everyone on the forums prefer my slow pace style poops more than my fast pace.
What do you think is in store for the future of poop? Do you think it will get better or worse? Do you think poop will be exposed to a broader audience, perhaps ever recognized as a significant genre?
I’m very worried what will happen in the future, I just hope my fans get a little smarter (they worship me too much) I hope I get better in the future as well, many people seem to say I lost it.
I hope that nothing serious happens in the future of poop!
Thanks for your time, Deepercutt.
