Greetings from The Review Crew. Full Metal Kiwi (FMK) here today, alongside thewafflemaster (TWM), TheDarkRises (TDR), and RealGenericFilms (RGF). We have a new review up for you, this one from Sergeant Bacon, called “FRED GETS IN BEFORE A HIATUS.”
This review is a bit different, in that we each submitted a short review as opposed to our usual round-table-esque discussion. This will probably be the last time we do something like this, but it’s good to mix things up.
TWM: To be frank, I’ll first put forth that this is a poop that’s only worth a watch. This is just your typical Vegas poop that is seen and then forgotten about. By no means is it bad, but nothing really sparked out as original. Effects were generic, text was unfunny, and it became overall
predictable. Though running at a decent 0:44 seconds, it seemed to drag on for a longer time. The poop could have been slightly more enjoyable if it had been cut to 30 seconds and gotten rid of the annoying “Indiana Jones” theme at the end. If you’re going to put music in a poop you should make sure its not taking up a full third of the video. Another thing I disliked was the text; it just didn’t work, but then again, it rarely does no matter who uses it. It seemed both out of place and unnecessary.
On a positive note, I found the beginning 20 seconds the most amusing. The effects were fresh and the poop was traveling at a pretty good pace. I found the compressed and rotating image pretty creative and amusing. Also, the stuttering and reversing was proving to be pretty decent (not too long, good length) but after the “What a gay nose” it all went downhill for me.
This poop is worth watching, but would have been more entertaining if it had been a shorter length. Even though it was a typical generic Vegas YTP, you can tell that Sergeant Bacon has potential. He is worth a check out, but make a call for yourself before subbing.
TDR: I quite enjoyed - scratch that - I REALLY liked it. It had a little of everything, but the thing that really stood out for me was G Major,
which is now like a lost art for me. The ear rape technique was good, but I think it could have used a little distortion or something, but I really liked it. The Indiana Jones music was alright. It might have been too out of there for my taste though. Reverses were appropriately placed, I really liked it.
My only negative comment is the ending screen cut-off. Usually poops like that make me await the appearance of some last second scene, mostly ear rape or stutter. But instead I wait for 5 seconds and get a small message for Syn (Synister Sir?).
In conclusion, there were not many problems with this particular piece. It was invigorating to see such talent. Fred: not so enthralling.
RGF: This poop is a pretty good one. It starts with great stutter, (perfect moment to stutter, in my opinion) and a spastic stretch which was unexpected. Then, it turns up the volume gain on a scene where Fred raps, for great effect. Third, Fred screams then reverses it, but the splicing was shoddy for it shows another scene in it, but works great. A stutter in the middle then a yell of “I WANT NED!” is next, but wasn’t too good but could be used in a YTPMV for excellent effect. Some funny stutters appear, then one of the best reverses in a poop ever in my opinion, that then goes devilish with color correction and sound mixing.
At this point, if the poop was the stock market and higher meant funner to watch, the stock market crashed. It shows a still with the Indy theme playing and some random text… and four seconds of nothing. If the poop did not have the ending, which was made as filler as evident in the cutoff text, “Long enough, Syn?” I would fave, but as the poop was excellent before the ending which was made to appease Synister Sir and could be taken off, I’m subbing. Kudos to FullMetalKiwi for finding this pooper.
FMK: I felt that this was an “average” poop. Not too great, not too bad, but right in the middle. It does feel a little long, and it’s a short poop
(under a minute!). The problem comes from its execution: there’s some great effects and editing at first, but it dies so slowly. I found the Indy music funny, actually, but then the text came and then the black… and then a message? I have no idea what that was about. If it was for annoyance, it works, but it appears out of place in this fast-paced poop.
This pooper has a lot of potential and seems to know what they want to do. Excluding the ending, I’d like to see more poops like this style: confusing, fast-paced, and effects-filled. I’d say it’s worth a watch.
That’s all from The Review Crew! Keep an eye out for our next review, where we may have a surprise (or two) for you!
