Ohayocon 2010: RabbitSnore's Account

About a week ago, on January 29, I rushed back from class to my apartment in New York City. Wasting no time, I grabbed the bags I packed the night before and hopped on the closest bus, riding it to the house of Thereisnospoon303 (TINS), where he and my brother Black_Puffin were waiting. In a few minutes, we drove off to La Guardia Airport, and shortly thereafter, we were on a flight to Columbus, Ohio. After several months of planning, we were finally en route to Ohayocon, the first anime convention we had ever attended – but this was so ordinary anime convention: We were traveling across several states, spending hundreds of dollars, and taking the risk of being caught by security with all those drugs hidden in my rectum, for the purpose of meeting six other members of the Forum.

TINS and I have administrated YouChew for approximately two years. If you were to have told me, as we began the transfer of administrative power from Conrad Slater to us, in two years, that as a direct result of maintaining the forum, I would find myself in Columbus, Ohio to meet people I had up till then only known online, I would have looked at you incredulously and asked you if your brain was running on Lussumo Vanilla, that software that kept crashing every time I tried to install it on the new server. But it seems I am frequently surprised these days. Our finding our way to Ohayocon was an unexpected result of being the administrator of YouChew, but it was certainly a welcome surprise.

The night we arrived, the three of us took a cab to the convention center, and for the first time face-to-face, we met Dillrod90, who was primarily and most directly responsible for the planning and organization of this gathering, and RedLuigi, a user with whom I’d frankly not had much contact at all. The following day, we met with Ruthie, Deepercutt, NoTAMATZ, and TheSfarioBros. All of us hit it off with relative ease. It was, as Dillrod so aptly put it, “like meeting old friends for the first time.”

Later, I asked RedLuigi what he had thought the convention and meeting others from the forum would be like:

“I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I had no idea what any of the members would be like in real life. ‘Are they all gonna be massive douche bags? Are they gonna be huge nerds with no life? Are the more popular members going to disapprove of me, etc?’ Things like that. And I’m very glad to say that [everyone was] very nice and very…

As for the con itself, …it was pretty much what I expected. Full grown men playing dress-up and being kawaii.”

Thanks largely to the preparatory efforts of Dillrod and thanks to our mutual ability to get along, the meeting was a striking, if surprising, success. Indeed, some of us had less than optimistic expectations for the potential gathering of forum members. “I thought the meet up would be a horrible failure,” TheSfarioBros told me. “Ohayocon is held in a very large building, making it difficult to coordinate groups of people. I expected people to be lost, confused, and frustrated most of the time. I also feared that, if we even found each other in the first place, that people would divide themselves up into groups and go do their own thing without really talking to or getting to know any of the members that were present. All of these pessimistic preconceptions were dashed when everyone eventually got together and we ended up having a great time.”

NoTAMATZ echoes this incredulity as he told me, “I guess I was slightly worried that we would all be too socially awkward to carry on a good conversation but I was wrong. I admit that in the first hour or so, it was a little awkward for myself but after a while, I had no problem with being relaxed. You bros were good like that.”

It surprised me as well that we were so readily able to connect with each other and laugh at most of the same things, but I suppose it stands to reason given our shared humor on the forum. All the same, it was a pleasant discovery that it did not take long for us to relax around us, and any awkwardness dissolved quickly, allowing us to get to know each other better. “[Deepercutt] sucks at frisbee but is awesome for getting me that retro Amy plushie,” said Ruthie when I asked her what she thought of those she met at the con. “I’d also like to add that TINS is quite the handsome man.”

We all spent a good amount of time attending events around the convention, enjoying each other’s company and conversation, and engaging in general merriment. We reveled in the antics of TINS infiltrating a Sailor Moon cosplay photoshoot, dressed as TF2’s BLU Spy, disguised as Ami Mizuno. As Ruthie remarked, the episode “was just sheer brilliance.” Best of all, there is copious photographic evidence to prove it.

Just as planned, we gathered at Buca di Beppo near the convention center on Saturday night for a group dinner. The forum’s group was in full attendance there, as we ate damn good Italian food, made wisecracks about the restaurant’s décor, laughed hard, and shared some of the most memorable experiences of the trip. As per request, our waitress brought out a cake, decorated to order with the words, “NO YOU FABRIC,” written across it in what I can only describe as the most putridly radioactive green I have ever seen in my adult life.

To cap off the evening, we retreated to Dillrod’s hotel room, where we unsuccessfully attempted to hook up a DVD player to the television in the room. After some consternation over the failure to play Attack of the Clones, we decided to search through the in-room movies available for order, hoping to find a film sufficiently horrendous to watch and riff. Finally, we settled on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, through which a great deal of jokes were born regarding Hugh Jackman and his sweaty body. Taking cracks at the film was one of my fondest memories of the trip; we were all relaxed and able to enjoy ourselves as a group of friends. RedLuigi perhaps said it the most succinctly: “…[D]espite some of the differences we all may have, we can all still join together and tear the holy fuck out of a bad movie.”

By the following evening, we had all gone our separate directions, back home, bidding each other farewell and, “See you on the forum.” “Honestly the hardest part of that entire meetup was leaving,” said TheSfarioBros, “as corny as that may sound.” And I must agree with him. After spending a great weekend with great people, going back to New York was the sorriest part of the trip. As TINS, Puffin, and I took up our bags from the convention center and we began making our way to the airport, the radio came alive in the taxi, playing Cyndi Lauper’s Time After Time. “It has to be a sad song that plays as we’re leaving,” remarked TINS, “doesn’t it?” Indeed, TINS. It must be a sad song from the mid ‘80s. It must. That’s just the way these things work.

Let the success of nine people from an online forum meeting at a convention full of teenaged girls and grown men dressing in sailor fukus be an evidence that the there is no space between people that cannot be bridged with the proper application of airfare and Italian restaurant reservations. The sentimentalist in me feels that this trip was something special; something that brought the YouChew community closer together; something tangible that demonstrates that we are not dissociated, disembodied, and inscrutable creatures at a distance, but real, knowable people –- as Dillrod called us, old friends who have, most of us, never met.

Attempted Fordtopia

Silence Poopgood, Youchew’s secret reporter, brings Youchew the scoop of poop news it deserves.

Obsessing over an obscure actor is nothing new from what one observes in Youchew; it is rather commonplace with people talking and arguing about which Margaret Gyllenhaal movie is most praiseworthy, or whether Johnathan Reys Meyer’s work in The Tudors outstrips his performance in Titus. Another day, another dollar for the average forum-goer around here, right?

However, sometimes, things get taken way over the edge. When il duce (or what some would say el douche) Conrad Slater disabled posting images, when the current junta leaders TINS and RabbitSnore (also sometimes called el douche) closed down the forum for three months just to be dicks, and now, what future poopers will call the Attempted Fordtopia.

I won’t try to sensationalize things. I am going only going to report the true goings-on of this event. This may not make the work as exciting as some overblown account of a tennis match. My work is not to meet the needs of an immediate audience, but to last for all time.

The Attempted Fordtopia grew out of the insane whims of a fringe cult within YouChew. This cult had misread comments by the reputed “Moses” or more accurately, “Gay Luigi” of youtube poop, SuperYoshi, who stated in an offhand manner “youtube poops should totally be called Harrison Fords now”. Sometimes all it takes is a single verse to set off a brutal sectarian war. In any event, the fringe cult, called the Fordists, took this definition quite literally and began infiltrating every facet of Youchew society, until they gained a foothold in the seemingly-omnipotent-but-surprisingly-corruptible Moderating Staff. The leader of the Fordists, a man known as Fordly, began to tighten his grip around the moderators and administrators, who were too busy fondling each others’ dicks to be completely aware of what was happening in the forum (this is fairly common among the Youchew staff; Conrad was known to touch himself for hours before finally realizing that he needed to ban pimpsahoy yet again. As Sonic sez, that’s NO good).

With the moderators and Administrators under control, Fordly began the final steps preparing his attempted Fordtopia. He reveled in the prospect of fulfilling SuperYoshi’s prophecies, pleasing his lord god Harrison Ford, and doubtless being fellated by all the forum members who would love and embrace their new god.

So on September twentieth, in the year nine-and-two-thousand, the Fordists struck, piercing Youchew to its very core. It started with the forum icons, innocently enough. However, seeing as this was not convincing the people to convert, Fordly took drastic measures. Youtube Poops were now forcibly called Harrison Fords, with YTPMVs being declared henceforth as Morgan Freemans. But even that could not stop the cult from its single greatest act of depravity: turning every single forum user’s avatar into a picture of their beloved: Harrison Ford.

Youchew is not known as a community that takes things lying down, I am proud to admit that. I am then also proud to say that Youchewers mounted a fierce riot against their inalienable rights. Many said NO! to Harrison Ford. NO! to forced avatars. Forum veteran TurkeyBeef inspired the masses with her pithy rejection of the new standard: “Bah…”

However, the reach of the Fordists was long, and High Priests SeductiveFord and Missharrison10 moved in to crush resistance with characteristic moderator brutality. However, the line was now drawn between the Fordists and the patriots of Youchew.

Fordly tightened his grip; not only were the avatars changed, but now one could not change them back! Users stared into the abyss, and they only saw the face of Harrison Ford staring back at them.

After this, things turned ugly fast as the small group of embattled Youchew Patriots felt surrounded by the forces of the Fordists. The patriot sisters, TurkeyBeef and Peeweesarno, along with longtime Youchew-goer Randomizer (now called WoFC to escape charges of counterfeiting and child prostitution) set the example by striking off their avatars altogether. If they could not be free to choose their pixelated face to the world, they would have none at all. Their demonstration gave faith to the Youchew Patriots, and disheartened the Fordists. The Sub-Deacon Fordist known as NegroHarrison reportedly said angrily of the demonstration:

“YouChew complaining? What a shock. Honestly, you people act like you have nothing in life besides this forum. “

Former forum mascots were not pleased. An anonymous mascot had this to say:

“Taking away MY spot as rightful mascot!? Next time I see this Ford loser I’m gonna pile-drive his face right into my ultimate grill, and I mean it, brother!”

Said another anonymous mascot:

“Hey you! Get offa my forum!”

Interestingly enough, an even smaller fringe cult called the Ronald McDonald Wacky Adventure Enthusiasts tried to use the disorder to push their own god and beliefs. However, NegroHarrison scattered the cult quickly, saying:

“Better than Harrison Ford?

Are you TRYING to get banned?”

One member was not afraid of getting banned, though, and he might be attributed one of the decisive blows against the Fordists. Resident youtube poop lover and a frequent producer of giant robot pornography, RAKninja solemnly stated “I am not a Ford Cafe Employee.” These steady, dependable words from a steady, dependable man caused a new heart-swell of support for the Patriots, and put Fordly and the Fordists at a serious disadvantage. Despite actions by Cardinal Thereisnoford303 and Arch-Bishop Emperor Ford, RAKninja would not back down, going as far as to throw the image of the Fordists’ god right back at them:

“do you want there to be 1000’s of harrison ford topics?”

The Fordists, although blind in adoration of their lord, realized that their grip depended on the stability of the forum, so they looked for ways to combat the likes of RAKninja indirectly before calamity could claim them. Fordly was growing desperate, and the work of the brave youchew patriots was seriously starting to weaken Fordist control. Even acts of brutality like changing the name of beleaguered and innocent forum-member The Pope perfidiously into “The Ford” were met with not gales of laughter, but cold silence.

The killing blow came, as it often does in history, with a single letter. Youchew expatriate, the renowned fanfiction author, artists, and forum crusader, WhollyRufus, sent out this decree to the Fordists that was so crushing, that I feel it is my duty as a historian to post it here in its entirety:

“WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THE FORUMS?!?!
I have noticed that recently you have revolutionized the forums look and feel to be promoting that of Harrison Ford. You displease me greatly! While it is better than changing everyones name to dumb@$$ (Yes, I’m talking about you, Miss 10!) you have still done something very bad. Think about it, some kid who has just been inspired by the works of WalrusGuy, Deepercutt or IAmTheGang starts making his own videos in his or, dare I say it, her avid quest for attention and find that you leading community has succumbed to the scourge of randomness and meme to become something not even poopish anymore. You’re user count will not go up, it will not go down it will just stop! Where do you think all these dissatisfied people will go to? ME! And you wouldnt want that now would you? I know what you’re thinking they’ll never accept me… Oh no? I’ll tell them how you banned me because I was becoming too powerful, and when I lead 10,000 angry poopers to simultaneously register on you’re site… I’ll be more than their leader… I’ll be their saviour!

Thank you for reading!”

The threat of 10,000 righteous Chewsters under the command of beloved exile WhollyRufus was too much for the Fordists. The acts of the Patriots, along with the second front under Wholly’s command, started to fracture all of their power bases. The eternal church of Ford was falling even as it rose meteorically to capture Youchew. Fordly and the other cultists, seeing as their time was up, took the way of their god and killed themselves by drowning in green slime.

Fordly died immediately, but Thereisnoford303 was reported as uttering under his last breath “The Black Dragon… live ON!”

And with that, peace returned to Youchew once more. The Attempted Fordtopia was no more.I hope that with this record we will learn to avoid such outbreaks and such wanton displays of destruction. I however am proud of the works of the Youchew Patriots. They would not accept such a heinous avatar change, and fought back like any Chewster should. They deserve our praise, and more importantly, our respect for their display of courage against the wicked Fordists. But be vigilant, Youchew. The Ronald Mcdonald Wacky Adventure Enthusiasts DID escape the great purging, and are active, though insignificantly small. Also, rumors are on the rise of a group calling themselves the Holy Cheaver Church, with the stated goal of “robbing the poor and fucking everything that moves”. Be wary Youchew, but never give up your resolve. Your will to fight. And most importantly, your avatars.

Calling All Chewfags! The Grey Tennis Tournament Preview

Tennis is one of the finest pastimes of the YouChew forums. It has led to the creation of many wonderful videos in a friendly and/or competitive manner for a majority of the regulars. Enthusiastics of the “sport” may acknowledge that there is currently a WMM tournament soon proceeding into it’s final round as well as the massive Tennis Season reaching it’s half-way point soon, but there are already plans for the next big tournament.

Brainstormed by users TheChutley and vvaluigi, the Grey Tennis Tournament is unlike recent tournaments which have played on some sort of gimmick. vvaluigi describes the Grey Tennis Tournament as “…basically a knock-out tournament. The reason why I named it the Grey Tennis Tournament is because of how simple it is. No special abilities, no different styles of matches, just a simple six round match.” Currently, the participation of this tournament is looking promising with 27 members participating so far. I had a hard time making this one into a joke TheChutley and vvaluigi hope to have 32 participants before they begin this tournament. Once it begins, players will have a 6 round tennis match each week while viewers vote on who should advance to the next round. The winner moves on and the loser is eliminated.

The rules of the matches are simple. Each of your rounds need to be between 0:30 and 3:00, may have no more than 3 sources added per round, and has a 72 hour turnover time. While the turnover time may seem strict, it is only there to keep things running smoothly, and I approve of it. TheChutley reassured me that the rules would be loosely strict. “We have to make sure things are still organized and on schedule, but we will, of course, be lenient to those with legitimate reasons.” Those who violate the rules in their match by using too many sources, too long of a round, too short of a round, or takes too long in the turnover time to produce the next round will be penalized 2 to 3 votes when the time comes for voting to begin.

As mentioned before, there is currently only 27 people participating, but TheChutley and vvaluigi are looking to make it a total of 32 players. There is a lot of talent already involved in the line-up, and the creators of this tournament know it. “My expectations are definitely high, considering the amount of awesome poopers we have in this tournament. It’ll be interesting to see who gets paired with who and what is created.” The tournament is unofficially set to begin in November in order to give enough time for the Tennis Season to conclude.

Spotlight on the Forum: The Pope Isn't Satisfied (Part 4: Return of the Power Abuse - Wii Edition)

On August 1st, 2009, The Pope filed a complaint in regards to moderators and/or administrators using their powers in a way that did not please him. The Pope queried why some topics and posts created by him were retitled, locked, and altered. “Are the mods free to do whatever the fuck they please…” said the Pope. Shortly after the first thread was locked there was a second topic created by the Pope who was still trying to get answers. In both of these threads there was no answer to the questions, but Dopply did make a statement which read “…THE ONLY GOOD ADMIN… IS GAY.” Clearly, there is a power struggle going on here. At the of the second thread created by the Pope about his problems was a message from ThereIsNoSpoon. He ignored the issue, acted oblivious, laughed himself while wearing spandex, and locked thr thread. After having some scientists evaluate that post, they declared “This man has no dick.” We’ll keep you posted on TINS’ hunt for a new penis.

Much like the plot of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed this seems to be very uninteresting. This is a incidence we’ve heard of over and over where someone falls down and breaks their knee and expects us to give them a bandage or morphine. We all know that the administrators and moderators are evil bastards who rival the might of the Umbrella Corporation. However, it isn’t very nice to mistreat the users of the forum. Volcano inhabitant and bullshit enthusiast Albert Wesker had this to say: “Poor performance indeed.”

Some forum members do feel that the moderators and administrators often break their own rules simply because they can while other forum members honor the staff’s service. Along the two threads created by the Pope, a third thread by YCP News Writer RideTheCatfish was created and locked . In it, the writer felt the need to remind us that Dopply smells like flowers. When people disagreed with him, they were insulted with name-calling like “silly monkey,” much like that fucker Donkey Kong in Punch-Out. Just because I lose doesn’t mean you have to fucking carry me away you fucking ape.

While it isn’t known whether or not the Pope’s issue was resolved or if the staff has seen the error of it’s ways are unknown. Either way we will all likely forget about it by tomorrow. In my opinion, I believe that instead of mocking or ignoring a person’s complaint someone should explain the situation kindly. Then do a Psycho Crusher or Bicycle Kick to that person. Who would win in a fight: Magic Bison or Raiden? They’re both like lightning. Hm.

A Look at Competitive Tennis: Window Movie Master 2 — Featuring GameBop vs. Emperor Ing

YouChew Poop has a history of sanctioned competitive Tennis Tourneys, beginning with the two Poop Tennis Leagues over a year ago. As time goes on, more and more tourneys emerge by the leadership of creative Poopers, and at present we have two such tournaments in progress hosted on the forum. One of these tourneys features the unique restriction that its players must use Windows Movie Maker. The players of Windows Movie Master 2 expunge the old misconception that WMM can never stand as tall as professional software such as Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere.

Organizers DaftPunkYoshi and strong414bad are avid Tennis players, each with over ten matches under their belts. Both are impressive Poopers, and they have organized an impressive tourney. Strong414bad told me how the organization of this competition began: “It all started with the original Windows Movie Master match, between Emperor Ing, NS2 and me. DaftPunkYoshi saw this and a couple months later PM’d me about starting another Windows Movie Master multi-way match, but to include a lot more people in it. I thought it was a great idea and made a thread about it, and enough people were interested that we both realised that we could turn it into a tournament.”

When I asked strong414bad what he thought about the conception of WMM as inferior software, he answered, “The funny thing about that conception is that there is some truth to it. There are a lot of things you can’t do in WMM that you can do in other programs.”

Many users of the software are quick to observe its faults. “Normally,” says DaftPunkYoshi, “I would see people complain that WMM crashes all the time and won’t bother going back to it again and people complain that WMM can’t do this or can’t do that.” Indeed, even people involved with Windows Movie Master 2 have had their share of difficulty with it. “It’s a delicate program, yes, but it is definitely not an inferior one,” remarked tourney player TheChutley about the software. Good editing, according to him, can be attributed to a good user: “When you see poopers, who are new to working with it, like quax94 and MycroProcessor, create such high quality material, you begin to think differently about WMM. I’ve gotten a few comments myself such as, ‘My God! You’ve cured WMM AIDS!’ But there really was no AIDS to begin with. It’s just a severe lack of creativity in the user.”

Emperor Ing vehemently averred a much different opinion about the common conception of WMM. “To be blunt,” he answered, “it is a crock-load of horseshit. [The first] Windows Movie Master [had] the sole purpose of showing off the skills and abilities of WMM which I feel a lot of uneducated (re: stupid) poopers tend to overlook. They get caught up on what WMM can’t do, and forget about all the things it can do.”

Though his opinion is more modest than Ing’s, strong414bad does not sell his signature software short however: “With custom effects, a lot of people — myself included — have been pushing the boundary of things that you really can do with the program.”

Where Ing, strong414bad, as well as DaftPunkYoshi agree is that WMM can be excellent editing software. “We had people using effects and techniques that most people have never seen or done on WMM before,” DaftPunkYoshi fondly observed about the tourney.

“WMM has a great potential for humor for me, since the editing is always so obvious, that if poorly done, it gives off the so-bad-it’s-good vibe, which is a type of humor I have loved for as long as I remember,” Emperor Ing testifies. “Nowhere else can something be so blatant as Slow-Down x2, or Hue Cycle Spectrum…WMM editing always has a way of making me laugh.” Strong414bad mirrors this sentiment, saying, “One of the best parts about it, at least in my opinion, is that no matter what you do with the program it’s still instantly recognizable as WMM. Every video made with WMM has the ‘WMM Feel’ that other editors can’t even begin to duplicate, and I like it.”

With the second gameweek of Windows Movie Master 2 now underway, the matches promise to become more increasingly laudable and entertaining, strutting all the stuff that WMM can do, but the first gameweek made a splendid showing.

One of the greatest spectacles of the first week of Windows Movie Master 2 is the showdown between GameBop and Emperor Ing, two of the finest known users of WMM. “I feel that it is probably some of the best tennis that I have played,” Ing said when asked how he felt about the match. “This is not to say that this is the best match I’ve had, but rather, this is where I actually would surprise myself with the directions I took in editing.”

Ing’s slower and comedic style might have put him out of his depth facing a Pooper like GameBop, so he took an interesting approach: “GameBop is quite known in the inner-poop circles for his heavy use of effects, so I kinda knew that if I tried to keep pace with all that malarkey, I’d be going nowhere fast. So I kinda reverted to what I have always reverted to: extremely poor and lazy editing. At the very least, if I didn’t win, I would have gone out laughing.”

Round 1- Burglary on a Chessboard

GameBop opens the match with what some called the best serve in the first round of the tourney, with comedic stutters, skillful juxtaposition, and some excellent custom special effects. His serve is a single-source video that features some of his signature material: Alfred J. Kwak. GameBop knows how to make the most of this material: His effects work produces some of the most interesting sights WMM can produce, such as a neon lights effect he created himself, and he doesn’t neglect to insert unedited lines of dialogue for its comedic value: “LET’S GET STARTED,” and “THIS IS A CHESSBOARD QUEEN, BOYS,” had me grinning widely. Not only visually impressive but amusing and funny, this round was a great way to start his match with Ing.

Round 2 - Lester the Molesting Mole initiates a Gay Burglary

Ing returns the serve with a somewhat unexpected second round. He adds Hotel Mario into the match, abusing Mario saying “GAY” for some great humorous effect. Ing doesn’t entirely abandon what the previous round set up — he adds stutters, visual effects, and ear rape of his own – but the round excels in part where Ing has added his Hotel Mario jokes. I have mixed feelings about this round, as the unexpected humor entertained me, but it didn’t feel as though it adapted extensively to the previous round. This volley can stand alone as an entertaining video, but it’s a mediocre return to an excellent serve.

Round 3 - During the Inital Burglary, Lester gets Stung

In round three, GameBop builds on the stutters and repetition of the second round, and he wrecks the Hotel Mario footage with some intense, color-shifting and picture-in-picture effects. The juxtaposition of footage in this round, as well as some of the comedic moments of unedited clips, harkens back to the techniques employed in the serve. GameBop retains Ing’s repetition of Mario saying “GAY”, but he removes the context, filling the space between repetitions with heavy effects, both visual and audio. This interesting balance of constructive and destructive adaptation made me lean heavily in favor of GameBop.

Round 4 - Lester’s Followup Theft is Poorly Executed

Then came round four. I don’t think anyone saw this one coming. Ing retained much of the effects work of the previous rounds and in some places built on it, but he removed most if not all of the audio from the last round. More Hotel Mario video and audio was inserted into the round as well. But the stark feature of this round was that, with the audio of the last round stripped away, Ing replaced it entirely with a word-splicing audio Poop of Wand of Gamelon and Faces of Evil – which had me nearly rolling with laughter. “GameBop is a pretty clever and skilled tennis player,” said Ing, “but I think anyone would have been thrown a bit off with my round 4. I know if I had been playing tennis normally, that stunt would have thrown me off. That is partly why I did it. The other reason being that I can’t help laughing at something as poorly done as ‘Squadala! We are fu-KING!’ I do what makes me laugh, which is a common strain among all of my videos.” Normally, destructive deviation from previous rounds is unimpressive to me, as it shows an unwillingness or an inability to adapt to the opponent’s techniques, but Ing stole the show for me with this round.

Round 5 - Lester continues to be forwarded to the mistakes of previous

Round five paled in comparison to four, I’m afraid, as GameBop tried his best to adapt to the calamity Ing had volleyed to him. The video on its own is impressive, as all of GameBop’s work in this game is. The visual effects are carried even further, with colored, distorted, and outlined video. GameBop wrecks the audio as well, adding stutters and pitch shifting effects. As near as I can tell, he introduced no more sources. If this were a serve, you would wonder what on earth the timeline of the video looked like in the editing software; it is intense and excellent. What this round lacks, however, is the unexpected kick of round four. I praise GameBop for making one hell of a round, but with the pacing and style chance of round four, it was difficult to follow up.

Round 6 - Orson Welles’ Burgal of a Lifetime is abound with Lester’s Mistakes

Ing did what he does best in round six, finishing the match with a novel round. He introduced drunken Orson Welles footage, continuing the early pattern of comic juxtaposition. Ing did not neglect to build on the effects of the last round, using the noisy, messy video between clips of Welles making a fool of himself. By this last round, the video quality seemed to have dropped significantly, having passed through WMM several times, but it was no detriment to this round; in fact, I think the loss of quality made it funnier.

Ing took the match and my vote in the bottom three rounds, but GameBop began the match with a potent serve and continued to perform well through the entire game. The sudden shift of editing direction in round four seemed to throw GameBop off the top of his game, and while his return was not bad in itself, it simply didn’t compete well in the face of such blatant, comic editing. GameBop vs. Emperor Ing is a match to behold, and it loses none of its charm when watched again – certainly a game to remember. As a judge of the first round of games, my vote went to Ing, but my compliments go to both players, who thoroughly impressed me with their fun match. Kudos, gentlemen.
