BigMarioandTailsfan Interview
The summer of 2007 saw a number of people step forward as specialists in certain areas of poop making. BigMarioandTailsfan became our first Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog expert and along and with his brother would mass produce videos with such dedication the between them they have made almost 140 video in six months. In this interview we find out what has changed since he started, and also about the Chain Poop which reinvented community collaborations beyond simple video response fads.
Let’s start with your first poop then, I’M GOING TO GAMELON TO AID MY STUFF, made about six months ago, made entirely of CDi. You made it after watching Calculate900’s tutorial video. How did that tutorial influence your early poop career? Does it have any influence on your poops now?
That tutorial was definitely a big influence on me because way back then, I was a huge fan of Calculate900. I loved his poops, since poops were mostly what I watched around that time due to being banned from every other forum I went to. Anyways, it was definitely a big influence on me because I was very desperate to learn how to make a poop, I always wanted to. One poop me and my brother (BigLuigiandSonicfan) made called I’M EVER SO GOOD AT SCIENCE SIR was one of the first ideas I had for a poop after watching one. I don’t remember which one it was, but it contained the AOSTH episode Must’ve Been a Beautiful Baby, and I was a huge Doctor Who fan back then and I really had some ideas for it, but I couldn’t figure out where to find the clips, so I gave up. Then Calculate’s WMM guide appeared and it was just like a miracle for me. One thing it really inspired me to do was crazy repetition, which I still do these days in the form of Stutter Loops and other repetition techniques, and it also inspired me to start sentence mixing, which was one of the basic things to do when you started pooping. These days, I’ve actually been influenced to do more sentence mixing (Which you can see in my recent poop, Dr. Robotnik Learns the Meaning of Life) by that one guide which taught me to do it, and by certain excellent sentence mixers like MeiAIDS and nickshorts. It did inspire me to use a lot of CD-I, but then I actually started leaning more towards the Super Mario World cartoons, which I was also influenced by the guide to do. In a nutshell, that guide mostly inspired me to do sentence mixing, repetition, and to use certain pooping materials.
At the beginning, you were predominantly a CDi pooper, along with many blooming poopers at that time. How did you change from CDi to the material you are better known for today, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Fritz the Cat?
I was watching poops a lot, and I decided to watch some poops in the directory. One of them I encountered was Robotnik Becomes the Sun! by none other than Stegblob. I loved it, but never went to his profile page. Some time later Misselaineous10, and her brother toadomos were in my youtube stream. Miss posted a bunch of Stegblob videos and I absolutely loved them, it inspired me a lot, but in those days, downloading from Youtube was a huge pain for me, so I never got around to pooping AOSTH until much later. I really started getting in to AOSTH when I made one of the poops I’m sort of famous for, Dr. Robotnik Teaches Sex Ed. It was so much fun that I really got into AOSTH and here I am today.
And I really got into Fritz the Cat when I saw the poop by dvariano titled Fritz the Feline. I think I saw that movie used once in a poop before, but this one was the one that really inspired me. If you read my Chewiki article, dvariano was one of the first poopers I heard of, and was, and still is, my favorite, so this was a huge influence on me. I didn’t want to ask him for it, so I checked around Youtube, and only managed to get 2 scenes from the movie. Then I decided to check Dailymotion and to my surprise someone had uploaded the whole movie. I watched it all, downloaded it all, and got to work on a new poop, that became part of a series I’m not sure I will continue called the Youtube Poop Funhouse. The first episode was titled Fritz and Robotnik go a quest, and I used a lot of AOSTH, Fritz the Cat, and some Bill O’Reilly to top it off. Now, I only use Fritz the Cat once in while because I lost interest in it, but you may see another poop based around it later when I get around to it or have some good ideas. It’s still a good source to use though.
How do you feel about the material that is deemed as AIDS now? Do you avoid using it?
I think in the right hands, all the “AIDS” materials can be used just right. CDi has run it’s course, but I say some of the newer cutscenes still have some material left in them if you looked hard enough for it. But there are still people out there who take time and effort to make poops using those “AIDS” materials, and succeed in making it humorous and enjoyable to watch.
TheBigL1, who can make a very entertaining poop with those materials, as shown in Speak and Spell Legends. NintendoBrad, who has made some amusing poops with those materials. WalrusGuy, who is also a very excellent sentence mixer, as shown in Dr. Rabbit is Racist! and The Only Mama Luigi Poop Ever Made. And MeiAIDS, who is one of my favorite sentence mixers of all time, and can make pretty much anything enjoyable. Oh, and 1upClock, who’s ear rape vids and poops are the best, even with AIDS materials in them.
You do a lot of work with AoStH, it is what you are best known for along with a few others. Are you worried that it has become overused too?
I do not think this is true. Like Stegblob said, there’s 65 episodes, only about 8 or 9 are used, there are episodes not even Steg has even touched. There’s also a few that need to be used more that either one person has used or absolutely none. It’s a whole series, the problem with CDi and Mama Luigi was they’re just episodes or clips, they die out much more easily, but this is a whole series. To be quite honest, I don’t even think SMW has AIDS yet, there are certain episodes no one has used, like AOSTH, and the series should not be marked with AIDS
You’ve got an interesting poop style. Your poops are often directly comical, with humorous poopisms such as sentence editing and word trims, such as in Dr. Robotnik Learns the Meaning of Life. Yet you do not neglect the more extreme poopisms, especially in your tennis matches, such as in your match with ELPsteel. When you go about making a poop, what do you aim to do? Are you trying to annoy people, make people laugh, both, or something else entirely?
Sometimes, it depends what mood I’m in. Mainly, I’m aiming to enjoy people, and annoy them at the same time. I am someone who likes to put ear rape in my poops when I feel like it, either as a wake up call or just something to startle people just for the hell of it. When it’s not depending on moods, I might just make anything. It’ll make you laugh, cry, scream, jump out of your seat, or think I need some medication. I mean I’ll do just about anything, you won’t even see it coming.
Let’s talk about the Chain Poop, which ended recently after a tremendous fifty-one rounds. When you began the Chain Poop, what were your expectations? Did you think or hope that it would become as popular or as massive as it was?
When I first came up with the idea of the Chain Poop, I thought it would be just another idea people would talk about then it would’ve died out. I’m surprised to see how successful it was and how wrong I was. I was just flabbergasted at the fact that about 70 people wanted to join by the time it ended. I’m even more surprised at the fact that Conrad liked it so much he made it an offcial site thing, putting it on the front page. I didn’t even think it would make it, I thought it would just eventually die. I’m glad to see people enjoyed participating in it though.
What do you think about the progress of it? Did you like the direction that it went? What do you think of the progression of the videos?
I thought the progress of it was pretty good, but the major flaw was what to do when someone took too long to get their part done. Lots of people vanished when it was their turn to get their round done because they were having problems or forgot, I should have planned a better system, but hey, every first time isn’t perfect.
I did like the direction it went, it was interesting to see how a video would evolve each time a person put their kind of pooping material and techniques into the video. It’s like making a time capsule. You put something that represents you (material, techniques, ect), then it grows and grows, with different objects of sorts. People went crazy, people added on their own materials, people used their own techniques, people just did what they did to make poops. Plus the Chain Poop actually got me interested in some people who I hadn’t bothered to check out yet, and that was one good thing I got out of doing this.
Let’s talk about Poop Tennis. You’ve played ten two player games and a game with three poopers, you, Wikiwow, and UncleChuckTH. How do you feel about Tennis? You clearly enjoy it, since you play it so much. What motivated you to play so many games?
I think Tennis is an interesting way to see what the other person does when they’re pooping, kind of how I felt with the Chain Poop. It’s also a fun way of just making a poop and being creative with it. It’s fun just to play around, to see what’s coming around the bend and hitting it back in your own unique way.
There was one point in my pooping career where I had a big Pooper’s Block. I was just dry for some reason, and I needed to take a little time off. Then I got interested in tennis, and started playing it. I found it a lot of fun, so I started doing it more. I also started accepting matches to help clean out the Tennis Wanted category and to help people get featured. It’s also another way I got interested in some poopers I really like today.
What influence has your brother BigLuigiAndSonicFan had on you, and what influence has he had on you? I understand that you taught him most of what he knows about poop. What do you think of his particular style of poop in comparison to yours?
When I started out I needed to get an opinion from someone, so I went and bothered my brother to watch it and tell me how he thought of it. I left and paced around and when I came back in, he was on the floor laughing. He said the “Impa for dinner” part was what made him laugh the most, and I thought maybe if my brother liked it, other people would to, and I was right.
The influence I’ve had on him was to start pooping, obviously. Eventually, he was interested and wanted to start pooping himself, so I set him up with Adobe Premiere Elements and the first thing he made was a fad response to “DIS IS A VOL-CAY-NO!” to test out Adobe, and then he made a real poop using Sonic the Movie, which I thought was pretty good. I’ve also inspired him to use some AOSTH, but unlike me, he likes to use a lot of other material, especially the videos made by famous Youtube cheater buster “ytwatchdog”, which turn out to be pretty humorous as well.
His style of poop is less crazy then mine, he’s a half slow half fast paced kind of guy. He likes to rearrange clips a lot and he definitely loves speeding up or slowing down stuff. He doesn’t like ear rape like I do but he still uses it once in a while. In many ways he’s similar to me though with some repetitions or speed ups, and maybe the occasional sentence mix, but he goes his own way, yet uses the same techniques that I do.
You’re both participating in the Poop Tennis League this January and February, you both will be playing many competitive games of tennis, including one match with each other. What are your expectations of the League, especially playing each other?
My expectations of the league are pretty high, and I’m hoping it will end up on the front page like the Chain Poop did. There are some really great people that joined; I see a good future ahead in the league with people like SeductiveBaz in it.
You are one of the most prolific poopers in the community. Within six months, you have made over one-hundred poop videos. Why and how did you make so many videos? Do you think the quality of your videos suffers?
Well I was and still am very in to Youtube Poop. I made a lot of short poops or fillers in my time, and way back when I was using WMM, I would make a lot of poops in a short time. Tennis also added up the video count because I did a lot of tennis with people. I’ve been going slowwe with the real poops lately though, and I hope I don’t go too fast, I take more time then I used to, so my poops are more satisfying for me and for other people when they watch them. Really, it’s mostly fillers and Tennis that make my video count so big, but my main poops are the things that really stand out in there.
What is poop to you? Is it a form of art? A hobby? How seriously do you take poop? Why is it what it is for you?
Poop is a sort of hobby for me, but I say it’s also a form of art in it’s own unique way. It’s like taking a painting, and messing it up, and putting it back together, then getting another painting and adding that on to the one you messed up, and you keep going on and on until you have a totally new product. I’m not very good at actual art (which I’ve said a few times), but this is a style of art I’m good at and can relate to.
But I don’t take poop very seriously, I’m not a very serious guy when it comes to this stuff, but sometimes I take it a bit seriously because poop actually takes a big chunk of a life I should have more of, and am trying to gain back, but most of the time it’s just something for fun.
What do you think of the future of poop? What do you think will happen as new poopers spring up in 2008? What would you like to see happen creatively?
I think people may start getting into taking more time and effort into their poops. People will start using new materials and new ways of pooping. I definitely think some new poopers are going to be big role models in pooping one day. Hopefully we won’t get kicked off of Youtube, it looks pretty clear right now though, but with people getting suspended, we might have to be more careful.
I honestly hope people start putting more time and effort into poops, and that people will start learning to move on to new material other than the same old CDi and Mama Luigi stuff, because I’d love to see a new material spring up that people would go to more. I also would like to see new styles of poop and maybe some new poop collaborations
