The Brawl Collab: An Unfinished Masterpiece

April 21, 2008 By: RabbitSnore Category: Site News 2 Comments →

Way before it’s dawning onto the shelves of Gamestop, Brawl was being praised for with such excitement and enthusiasm.

Even the YouChewPoop Community was so ecstatic at the thought of another game from the Smash Bros. series, especially with the attraction of new characters that results in 35 characters altogether including Zero Suit Samus, Wario, and even Snake and Sonic.

Then, UncleChuckTH had the idea: A collab of the preview footage of Brawl! The very idea attracted dozens including KingCorholio, Christoph, myself, and many others.

On February 11th, Uncle uploaded the first part, and it became a success with a total of 15,853 views, favorited 203, and given a total of 12 awards counted so far. This part was really great, I especially enjoyed Lupo’s entry for his appropriate use of speed ups and slow downs, plus his reversals. I also enjoyed NS2’s use of FALCONE PAWNCH!

The second part was uploaded one week later, but have no commentary on this, because they all have done an exceptional job using the material.

Months later, we still have not seen the last part, and I asked myself ‘Why?’ Of course, I wouldn’t know, but with the use of my investigative journalism, I asked my question from the source:

“Rather bad admittance here. There were no real reasons. I was just too lazy. There were a few factors though. Some people hadn’t submitted there entries, others didn’t have challenger approaching pics, and I can only make videos on weekends. I was gone the weekend Brawl came out, and was also working on a school project. Not only did this prevent my time to give to it, but others were too lazy to get their stuff submitted.”

-UncleChuckTH

Although a disappointment, people still can watch the collab parts on Uncle’s Channel. Also, seeing as the third part didn’t get uploaded, many have already uploaded their parts onto YouTube.

And so, even though incomplete, the spirit of the collab will be in all of us and will live long, until Nintendo makes copyright claims.

Album Review: OphiosG

April 20, 2008 By: RabbitSnore Category: Quick Reviews 5 Comments →

Ophios always has been something of an outsider among average YouTube poopers. His videos have always been vastly unpredictable, compared to the typical videos of others, and that surreal spontaneity is reflected in his music. (Oh yeah, he produces music too. Probably should have mentioned that.)

This, his latest work, is something of a puzzlement compared to his previous works. Listening to his other songs and CDs I’ve come to expect one thing from Ophios: Frantic, expressionist, drum and bass music. His latest, OphiosG, completely shifts in directions multiples times throughout the CD, from the nostalgic-electro blips of “R1S1S1 Numbers”, to the calming pianos of “R2S1S1 Fnord 3″, to the frenetic breakbeats of “R3S1S2 Depth.”

I would describe the album as akin to driving on a road that’s still under construction. It’s a very smooth ride at first, but every so often you’re interrupted by a deluge of bumps and rough patches, then smoothness again. My one criticism comes from the track “R2S2S1 Fnord 2″, which goes a full 16:40 length of nothing but atmospheric noise of what I can only describe as “Cavern Ambience.”

All in all an enjoyable listening experience for the more open-minded listener. I couldn’t see this album finding radio airplay anywhere, but this is still probably Ophios’s most accessible album yet.

For fans of: Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada
Final Rating: 4 out of 5 - A great listen.
